Combining the beauty of the islands with an outstanding drama festival, student group travelers can experience unforgettable educational travel with the National Performing Arts Bahamas Cruise Festival. The program, designed to encourage students interested in a career in the performing arts, provides acting workshops, expert feedback, and a unique performance experience, along with traveling to Nassau and the Island of Coco Cay aboard Royal Caribbean’s The Sovereign of the Seas.

Student tour groups begin their adventure at Port Canaveral in Florida for embarkation and check-in. Following a welcome by a cruise festival representative, students enjoy a buffet lunch in the Windjammer Cafe, followed by a informational meeting for all the festival passengers. As the ship heads for Nassau, Bahamas, student travelers enjoy dinner in the Kismet and Gigi Dining Rooms and a welcome aboard show in the Follies’ Lounge, presented by the ship’s talented performers.

The next morning, each of the student drama troupe performs a 20-minute segment of a theatrical selection of their own. An interactive feedback clinic with an expert festival adjudicator is held immediately following the performance to identify key developmental areas and to support identifiable strengths.

Later in the morning, The Sovereign of the Seas makes its scheduled arrival in Nassau, Bahamas. Passengers are invited to disembark from the gangway located on the Main Deck, just steps away from downtown Nassau. The capital city of The Bahamas, Nassau resides on New Providence Island, neighbor to Paradise Island. The islands maintain a distinct blend of international glamour and tropical ease, offering traveler’s freedom to explore the city or kick back on the beach.

A warm sun and balmy breezes greet student group travelers along the famous Straw Market, where bargaining with shop owners brings a whole new meaning to “great deal.” Visitors may savor the colorful bustle of the outdoor fruit and vegetable stalls and fresh fish market, or be entranced by the fashionable elegance of Bay Street’s international boutiques. The smell of frying conch (pronounced “conk”) fritters tempts palates as visitors take in the distinctive island arts and crafts, music, and people.

On Paradise Island, the Atlantis Resort features breathtaking views in their underground aquariums at the resort’s 63-acre water park, which also features waterslides and rides, waterfalls, swimming pools, and snorkeling. With all the shopping and sightseeing, students may opt to play in the sun and sands of Blackbeard’s Cay, named after the infamous pirate, where turquoise waters and swaying palm trees invite relaxation. A Stingray Adventures Tour is also offered there.

In the late afternoon, student group travelers return to The Sovereign of the Seas for dinner in the Kismet and Gigi Dining Rooms. For the night owls, a midnight buffet is also served on the Pool Deck.

As the ship departs Nassau for CocoCay, the Royal Caribbean’s private island, passengers take in a night of rest. The next morning the student performers attend actor’s workshops featuring topics such as Audition Techniques, Scene Development, Vocal Techniques, and/or Stage Movement.

In the afternoon, it’s a Gilligan’s Island experience on CocoCay, located smack in the middle of the Caribbean’s bright blue waters. White-sand beaches lay the stage for dramatic views – all of which are reserved exclusively for Royal Caribbean guests. Passengers are invited to while the day away with games, limbo contests, volleyball, and a beach barbecue. For the more adventurous, snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking, and wave runners are available for an additional charge.

That evening, the drama troupes are recognized at a special awards ceremony. Commemorative awards are presented to all participating groups and special awards are given to groups and individuals for outstanding performances. The top performing group is even invited to perform before the evening cruise show. The next morning, students enjoy breakfast in the dining rooms before de-embarkation in Port Canaveral.

The National Performing Arts Festival Bahamas Cruise sets the stage for student groups to gain confidence by performing for other festival participants and professionals, and enjoying social time with peers who share their passion for theater – all set against the beautiful tropical background of the Bahamas.

The beautiful, exotic islands of the Caribbean have long been a favorite cruise destination. Visitors literally have hundreds of ports of call to choose from, each offering their own unique tropical appeal. With their expansive natural beauty, it is no surprise that the Bahamas and Bermuda are considered top cruise destinations around the world. Grab your sunscreen and your shades and get ready to dive into two of the most alluring tropical locations on the planet.

The Bahamas

The Bahamas make up a group of islands just south of Miami. This lush, tropical locale draws visitors from around the world with its beautiful climate and year-round sunshine. In addition to the near perfect weather, the Bahamas offer distinctive and unique ports of call that appeal to almost every type of traveller. And no matter which island you visit, you are sure to find some of the best diving sites in the world.

When visiting the Bahamas, it is important to remember that with tropical weather, comes heavy rain and thunderstorms at certain times of the year. While these storms typically last for under an hour, most visitors are advised against booking their trip during the rainy season.

The Bahamas offer rich international culture that is accessible and welcoming to English speakers. The atmosphere, though exotic, is familiar and comfortable. Many visitors flock to the Grand Bahamas Island port of call, which offers tourists fabulous shopping in Newport and opulent resorts and casinos in Nassau.

One only needs to take an aerial view of the Bahamas to get a picture of palm fringed beaches and crystal clear azure waters that make these islands an ideal tropical escape.

Bermuda

Bermuda makes up an archipelago of about 150 islands. The year round climate is consistently tropical and mild, and the gently lapping waves and sandy pink shores make this destination ideal for romantic getaways.

Bermuda appeals to those who are looking for idyllic sandy beaches and quaint seaside cottages. Land vacations are notoriously expensive in this part of the world, which makes cruising a perfect alternative.

Anchoring at St. George allows day visitors a chance to enjoy a round of golf, or an opportunity to view the breathtakingly beautiful sea life in a glass bottomed boat. For the more adventurous, scuba diving excursions can be arranged. And for travellers looking for ultimate relaxation, a long laze on one of Bermuda’s stunning, sun drenched beaches makes an ideal vacation memory.

Caribbean Cruise Ships

It is usual for cruises to depart from the United States. Along the way, ships often dock at ports along the eastern seaboard including New York, Boston and Philadelphia. Some of the most convenient ports of calls for Caribbean cruises are Hamilton, St. George and the Dockyard.

Caribbean cruises are a perfect choice for those who want to spend time with their friends or loved ones. While on board, you will have plenty of opportunities to connect with your travel mates, like midnight deck parties, or for the romantically inclined, candlelight dinners under the stars. Onboard entertainment appeals to travellers of all ages.

Onboard Cruise Ship Amenities

Not all cruises include island ports of call. If you do opt for a cruise that lands at port, you’ll have a variety of activities and excursions to choose from. Wind surfing or jet skiing, scuba diving and shopping or simply lying on pristine beaches are among some of the exciting options. But for many, being treated to spectacular calm ocean views, poolside relaxation and plentiful onboard activities is enough for an ideal vacation

Many Caribbean cruise ships have onboard beauty salons and spas to indulge and rejuvenate guests. For those who want to get their heart rates up, lots of cruises offer fun, on ship sporting activities, like golf lessons or aerobic classes.

The luxurious cabin accommodations onboard most Caribbean cruise lines make guests feel pampered and relaxed. Cruise travellers will also enjoy decadent meals in picturesque dining rooms.

While some cruises are casual and relaxed, others offer travellers the opportunity to dress up for upscale dinners and entertainment events. There may also be formal evenings when travellers are required to wear gowns and tuxedos.

There are countless Caribbean cruise lines to choose from. Many offer privacy for couples, while others offer special packages tailored to families or groups travelling together. The great thing about family orientated cruise vacations is that children will be treated to almost endless fun activities, allowing parents much needed adult time. With the kids busy at play, mom and dad can enjoy a romantic walk on the deck, or a romantic, quiet dinner.

Whether you are a romantic couple, a family or fun loving group, there’s a Bermuda and Bahamas cruise vacation that’s perfect for you.

You should also decide if you want to not worry and take an all inclusive cruise so that your meals and activities are all paid for. It usually is cheaper to do it this way than pay as you go along the way.

For those wishing to get away from it all, cheap cruises to the Bahamas can be just the ticket. You can enjoy the natural beauty and the native culture of the Bahamas as well as the cruise ship amenities. On such cruises, there are opportunities for everyone in your party to have a great time.

A cruise to the Bahamas will most likely depart from Florida ports such as Miami, Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale. Since some islands are so close, many cruise packages will have you there within a matter of hours. Located in the Atlantic, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a nation found just southeast of Florida and just north of Cuba and the Caribbean.

This archipelago (or string of islands) is comprised of nearly 700 islands and cays. Even cheap cruises to the Bahamas will allow you to visit at least one island during a weekend getaway.

While visiting the Bahamas, you can experience the rich culture, which is a compelling mixture of African and European influences. If you just hear steel drums when you think of Bahamanian music, you have it partly right.

While in the Bahamas, you are likely to hear a rhythmic form of music known as Junkanoo as well as rake and scrape and calypso. Marching bands also play an important role in island life and you may get a chance to see them in action during one of their many festivals.

If you are lucky enough to find cheap cruises to the Bahamas, you will have money left over to explore the many other activities available on the islands. Of course, the biggest draw is the endless miles of gorgeous beaches and warm sun.

In addition to this incredible treat, there are water sports such as snorkeling and diving, glass bottom boat tours, and even submarine tours. You may want to shop for crafts such as palm frond basketry, hats and bags at the charming markets. There are beautiful golf courses on some islands and you can even find places to can swim with dolphins.

Because Nassau is only about fifty miles from the coast of Florida, it is often the first island experienced by travelers. The British colonial heritage of this island and the Bahamas in general feel familiar and exotic at the same time.

The modern resorts and gorgeous beaches make you very aware you are in the tropics. But the fact that everyone drives on the left side of the road and the English style uniforms of the police officers gives it a European feel as well.

A trip to the Bahamas is the perfect vacation for those who want to relax on the beach as well as those looking for more adventure. Cheap cruises to the Bahamas are available if you do some shopping around.

It is definitely worth it to find a good deal on the cruise so that you have enough left in your budget to experience the culture and amenities available in the Bahamas.

For those wishing to get away from it all a Bahamas Cruise can be just the ticket. Not only will you savor the beauty of the islands but you will enjoy the culture of the islanders as well. On such cruises there are opportunities for everyone in your party to have a great time.

When you arrive in the Bahamas you’ll find a special culture. If you simply hear steel drums when you imagine music of the Bahamas you have it partially exact. Steel drums are only a small part of the picture. While in the Bahamas you will probably hear lots of different music forms such as Junkanoo calypso scrape and rake.
