The beautiful, exotic islands of the Caribbean have long been a favorite cruise destination. Visitors literally have hundreds of ports of call to choose from, each offering their own unique tropical appeal. With their expansive natural beauty, it is no surprise that the Bahamas and Bermuda are considered top cruise destinations around the world. Grab your sunscreen and your shades and get ready to dive into two of the most alluring tropical locations on the planet.

The Bahamas

The Bahamas make up a group of islands just south of Miami. This lush, tropical locale draws visitors from around the world with its beautiful climate and year-round sunshine. In addition to the near perfect weather, the Bahamas offer distinctive and unique ports of call that appeal to almost every type of traveller. And no matter which island you visit, you are sure to find some of the best diving sites in the world.

When visiting the Bahamas, it is important to remember that with tropical weather, comes heavy rain and thunderstorms at certain times of the year. While these storms typically last for under an hour, most visitors are advised against booking their trip during the rainy season.

The Bahamas offer rich international culture that is accessible and welcoming to English speakers. The atmosphere, though exotic, is familiar and comfortable. Many visitors flock to the Grand Bahamas Island port of call, which offers tourists fabulous shopping in Newport and opulent resorts and casinos in Nassau.

One only needs to take an aerial view of the Bahamas to get a picture of palm fringed beaches and crystal clear azure waters that make these islands an ideal tropical escape.

Bermuda

Bermuda makes up an archipelago of about 150 islands. The year round climate is consistently tropical and mild, and the gently lapping waves and sandy pink shores make this destination ideal for romantic getaways.

Bermuda appeals to those who are looking for idyllic sandy beaches and quaint seaside cottages. Land vacations are notoriously expensive in this part of the world, which makes cruising a perfect alternative.

Anchoring at St. George allows day visitors a chance to enjoy a round of golf, or an opportunity to view the breathtakingly beautiful sea life in a glass bottomed boat. For the more adventurous, scuba diving excursions can be arranged. And for travellers looking for ultimate relaxation, a long laze on one of Bermuda’s stunning, sun drenched beaches makes an ideal vacation memory.

Caribbean Cruise Ships

It is usual for cruises to depart from the United States. Along the way, ships often dock at ports along the eastern seaboard including New York, Boston and Philadelphia. Some of the most convenient ports of calls for Caribbean cruises are Hamilton, St. George and the Dockyard.

Caribbean cruises are a perfect choice for those who want to spend time with their friends or loved ones. While on board, you will have plenty of opportunities to connect with your travel mates, like midnight deck parties, or for the romantically inclined, candlelight dinners under the stars. Onboard entertainment appeals to travellers of all ages.

Onboard Cruise Ship Amenities

Not all cruises include island ports of call. If you do opt for a cruise that lands at port, you’ll have a variety of activities and excursions to choose from. Wind surfing or jet skiing, scuba diving and shopping or simply lying on pristine beaches are among some of the exciting options. But for many, being treated to spectacular calm ocean views, poolside relaxation and plentiful onboard activities is enough for an ideal vacation

Many Caribbean cruise ships have onboard beauty salons and spas to indulge and rejuvenate guests. For those who want to get their heart rates up, lots of cruises offer fun, on ship sporting activities, like golf lessons or aerobic classes.

The luxurious cabin accommodations onboard most Caribbean cruise lines make guests feel pampered and relaxed. Cruise travellers will also enjoy decadent meals in picturesque dining rooms.

While some cruises are casual and relaxed, others offer travellers the opportunity to dress up for upscale dinners and entertainment events. There may also be formal evenings when travellers are required to wear gowns and tuxedos.

There are countless Caribbean cruise lines to choose from. Many offer privacy for couples, while others offer special packages tailored to families or groups travelling together. The great thing about family orientated cruise vacations is that children will be treated to almost endless fun activities, allowing parents much needed adult time. With the kids busy at play, mom and dad can enjoy a romantic walk on the deck, or a romantic, quiet dinner.

Whether you are a romantic couple, a family or fun loving group, there’s a Bermuda and Bahamas cruise vacation that’s perfect for you.

Location weddings are beginning to gain popularity as brides are becoming extra creative in their wedding plans. However, though this might reduce the number of guests at the wedding, it will create opportunities for some fun activities.

Some brides prefer a seaside wedding, so they shift their wedding festivities to their local beach, or to some rather exotic destinations like the Bahamas or Jamaica. There are many fun activities that may be planned based on this theme. Suppose the wedding is a weekend bash, the guests will hang around even after the wedding, so the bride may plan a sailing trip. You could hire a chartered boat, and give your guests some quality time to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy themselves.

If you choose the Caribbean, the bride and groom could probably arrange for a free cooking demonstration, put up by a hotel or some local chef, to entertain the wedding guests. As most of the wedding food will be unlike the food they eat back at home, the guests might as well learn how it is prepared, as a fun activity.

Suppose you plan the wedding in Hawaii, which happens to be another popular choice. There are plenty of activities in store for the location. For instance, how about a luau? You could use this to replace the formal and conventional rehearsal dinner.

Your guests would love a hula lesson in Hawaii. But, think about the age group of your guests and ensure that there is enough space between the wedding and the hula lessons, so that the aching bones can rest if needed.

During the ceremony also, there are plenty of ways to blend the spirit of the location into the wedding itself. In the case of a seaside reception, the guests can play “pass the shell” where each person gets to “hear” advice from the alternate world. And once they get the advice (actually, advice they come up with on their own) they tell the couple verbally or write it down in a book.

Some activities that you can have before the wedding include shopping excursions, wine tasting (if any), and guided tours. If you plan to have any one of these activities, remember that the bride and the groom will have to pay for the entire bulk of guests. Say you arrange for a sailing trip, you have to pay the bill for the excursion. It is better not to tell them before hand that the trip will cost x dollars. Chances are they won’t be too happy about it.

One important advantage of having a location wedding is that only close friends and relatives will attend the ceremony, allowing you to plan certain special activities that you would not have had if the wedding had been a bigger event. For instance, the bride can arrange a slumber party with her close pals with popcorn, movies and drinks in a cottage, a hotel room or a villa, depending on the wedding location.

And of course, when planning a location wedding, this can also work as a honeymoon vacation. If that is what you have in mind, it would be better not to arrange many activities but rather let the guests find their own source of entertainment before and after the ceremony.

In 1940, clairvoyant (a person with abnormal power of seeing in the mind what is happening or what exists a distance) Edgar Cayce predicted that the lost continent of Atlantis would start to rise again in the vicinity of The Bahamas in 1968 or 1969. Since then, 37 years have passed and many major events have happened, such as The Great Britain granted The Bahamas internal self-rule in 1964, Huber Ingraham became prime minister in 1992, and Perry Gladstone Christie elected prime minister in the 2002 general election. The lost continent of Atlantis, however, has still not been found.

Bimini, a tiny grouping of islands, was located some 50 miles off the coast of Florida (USA). The Caribbean Indians said that that this group of islands gush magical waters called the ‘fountain of eternal youth’. It was told that someone drank the water from this fountain and was cured of all his illnesses as well as able to retain his youth. Juan Ponce de Leon, a Spanish explorer, was intrigued by this legend and thus, he set out to find Bimini in 1512. He set sail from Puerto Rico, missed Bimini and landed on Florida.

The mystery surrounding Bimini did not end with legend of the mystical fountain. In 1968, aircraft pilots reported that glimpses of wall or building foundations were seen in the water of the north island of Bimini. The discovery stirred worldwide interest and further investigation was held. The results of the investigation revealed that the foundations look more like roadways rather than walls. According to experts, a more satisfying answer would be that this strange phenomenon is entirely due to natural formations. Till this day, it is still a mystery as to whether the roadways really belong to the lost continent of Atlantis or exist due to natural formations.

Casting all the legends, myths and mystical tales aside, Bimini is indeed a wonderful place to visit. It is one of the best places known for game fishing, diving and snorkeling. The offshore reefs, which are located 3 miles off the island, attract millions of colorful fishes. Snorkelers are able to enjoy seeing black coral gardens and blue holes. Perhaps, they may also see the infamous roadways of the lost Atlantis on the sea floor! Divers can explore the wrecked motorized yacht which sank in the shallow waters of the coast in 1929. Apart from these wonderful explorations, other places of interest you can visit include the Healing Hole, the Shark Mounds, the Fountain of Youth and the Devils Triangle.

Albert Einstein once said, ‘The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious’. Indeed, it would be a wonderful experience to visit a fascinating place, like the Bimini, The Bahamas, with such intriguing and mystifying tales. It is worth taking the chance to explore this mysterious place as well as enjoy the vast variety of activities it offers

Start thinking of vacations as not just times to unwind but as times to participate in things you have never done or don’t get the opportunity to do. Making one’s vacation an adventure instead of just a vacation will also make it more memorable and create stories that will be told for a lifetime. Don’t just go lie around on the beach, plan some exciting activities that will get your blood flowing and the adrenaline rushing. Here are a few ideas for some adventurous activities available in the Bahamas.

At the top of the list of spine tingling adventures we may as well get it out of the way, diving with sharks. That’s right, you take a five hour dive with Caribbean Reef Sharks and you will even get to watch them feed, hopefully not on you! Seriously, there are four sites where you can dive with the sharks and they all have excellent safety records. I would not suggest that you attempt to recreate this scenario on your own, the professionals who run these shark feeding tours have years of experience and are also familiar with shark behavior so they recognize when the sharks may be getting too aggressive. Of course this trip is only available if you are dive certified, which can also be done in the Bahamas.

If you love the water but either don’t want to get dive certified or would rather opt for something less expensive, you can always go for a snorkeling adventure. Snorkeling in the Bahamas is a rare treat with the clear blue waters it seems like you can see forever. There are many coral reefs and diverse marine life to be seen and it will give you the chance to swim with hundreds, if not thousands of beautifully colored fish. As with diving, always go with a partner.

Another cool adventure that you can take is the Sub adventure. This is an alternative for those who may be a little apprehensive about getting in the water and being exposed to direct interaction with the marine life. In this tour you will get an orientation on submarines where you learn the fundamental skills necessary to pilot a sub as well as the procedures for communication. After these basic instructions are done you will be taken for a submarine trip in shallow depths of around fifteen feet or so and be able to view coral reefs filled with tropical fish of many different colors while enjoying a safe climate controlled environment. This is an exciting adventure that will give you fond memories to take back home and make you want to come back.

The Bahamas is a 100,000 square mile archipelago that extends over 500 miles of the clearest water in the world. Our 700 islands, which include uninhabited cays and large rocks. Upwards of 300,000 people live on the islands. The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is an English speaking nation

The Islands of the Bahamas give the islands a warm, agreeable climate which hardly varies all year round. The most refreshing time is between September and May. Casual summer wear can be worn during the day at any time of the year, but be sure to bring a jacket or sweater for the cooler evenings between December and February.

A few people, especially in the southern and eastern islands, practice Obeah, a spiritistic religion similar to Voodoo. Voodoo is also practiced by the large number of immigrants from Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, and Dominican Republic. While well known throughout the Bahamas, Obeah and Voodoo are shunned by many Bahamians

Cape Santa Maria is a unquestionably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with pure-white, powdery sand, stretching about three miles. It is at the island’s northern tip, about 15 minutes from Stella Maris, and was named by Christopher Columbus for one of his ships. The beach is in a protected bay that faces northwest. It is mostly calm and, even with strong inland winds, it is still swim able and enjoyable.

Bahamas shopping markets do include both high end labels and homemade goods at the local Bahamas straw markets. Port Lucaya Market place is the happening place to be on Grand Bahama Island and it is on the must visit list of most visitors to the island. This 12 acre picturesque waterfront complex, established in 1988, comprises gaily coloured, island style clapboard structures and paved brick path ways. It is home to 66 retail shops and 13 restaurants, 94 straw vendors, 15 hair braiders and 23 artisans, plus a number of water sports companies, where you can charter a fishing or dive boat and arrange for a reef tour.

Gambling is legal in the Bahamas, that is gambling is legal for everybody, but Bahamians. Bahamians caught gambling are subject to fines of up to $500.

In the tourist towns such as Nassau and Freeport, nightlife in the Bahamas is a vibrant and lively scene. Night life in the Bahamas on the Out Islands is either quiet or some times barely visible, although there are some great pubs and activities just about every where.

Thanks largely to the Bahamas’ convenient location and commitment to tax neutrality, it has become a recognized and respected offshore financial center. The stable political and financial environment provides security, while confidentiality of banker-client relations is strictly adhered to and enforced by law. Due to the expansive growth of the Bahamas as a major financial center, there are a variety of Bahamas financial services available to suit a variety of investment needs. If you are looking for offshore asset protection or tax relief, the Bahamas offers several options that may work for you.

One of the most attractive aspects of doing business in the Bahamas is the freedom from taxes on income, capital gains, profits, gifts, inheritance, and estates. There is no withholding tax on dividends, interest, or royalties, and there are no payroll taxes. In addition to the financial benefits, there is a wide selection of highly trained professionals available to assist you, such as lawyers and accountants.

Bahamas financial services include banking, private banking, trust services, investment fund administration, capital markets, investment advisory services, e-commerce, insurance, corporation formation, and shipping registries.

The Bahamian Trust

When established, a Bahamian trust must be designated as “resident” or “non-resident.” Bahamian law allows for the establishment of three types of trusts:

1.	Standard Trust

An asset protection trust that can be either revocable or non-revocable.

2.	Testamentary Trust

A trust which is activated upon the death of the Settlor, transferring assets to the estate.

3.	Charity Trust

To qualify, beneficiaries have to be genuine charities. There is no perpetuity period.

When establishing a Bahamian trust, the attorney must know who the trustees will be, how and when beneficiaries will receive assets from the trust, if there will be a protector, and what the protector’s powers will be.

The trustee’s powers must be stated in the document, and the Settlor is allowed to expressly recognize Bahamian law as the governing law of the trust. If the document does not stipulate a fee to be paid the trustee, then the trustee cannot take compensation. If the trustee is given a fee, it can be either a flat fee or a percentage of the trust assets.

As a Bahamian trust is deemed a private agreement, registration with a government agency is not a requirement. Therefore, no business license fees, filing fees, or registered office fees are payable.

Corporations

In order to incorporate in the Bahamas, the company must file a Memorandum of Association with the Registrar General. Articles of Association may be filed at the same time or up to six months from the date the Memorandum of Association is filed. Other requirements for incorporation include:

•	The Memorandum of Association must be signed by at least two subscribers, in the presence of at least one witness.

•	Each subscriber must subscribe for at least one share

•	A non-resident subscriber is required in order to obtain exchange control permission.

•	A declaration signed by subscriber’s counsel must be submitted with the Memorandum of Association, describing the capacity of the incorporating subscribers.

Only two subscribers are needed to incorporate, and meetings may be held outside of the Bahamas.

A private company must be managed by two directors, and a public company must be managed by three directors. Directors shall submit financial statements and the report of the auditor to the annual general meeting.

Every business must have a license to operate in the Bahamas. Fees are normally based on a percentage of annual gross receipts.

International Business Companies

International Business Companies are formed for a variety of reasons, including formation of mutual funds, ship registration, conducting import/export operations, and such.

IBC’s re exempt from all business license fees and do not require a license under the Business License Act. Shareholders are exempt from all income taxes, capital gains taxes, and corporate taxes.

No public records are maintained, ensuring the privacy of shareholders and directors.

An IBC is a company that does not carry on business with residents of The Bahamas, does not own a real estate interest or lease property other than office space in The Bahamas, does not participate in banking, trust, or insurance businesses, and does not provide a registered office for companies.

An IBC is allowed to conduct foreign exchange business without exchange control restrictions, and licensing fees and service charges are low.

This is just a brief overview of some of the Bahamas’ financial services and does not necessarily include all requirements or powers allowed under Bahamian law.

International companies looking for tax-exempt business options may review our Bahamas case studies, prepared by the specialists at LOM Financial Services.

Spring break in the Bahamas is a busy time. The season runs all of March. If you are looking for cheap holidays to Bahamas for spring break, you are going to be surprised when you see that everyone has the same thoughts. It is a fantastic time and everyone visits the beaches, shop, restaurants and the nightclubs. Spring breakers enjoy dolphin tours, dinner cruises, powerboats, fishing, jeep safaris, Jet Ski tours, kayaking trips and party cruises. If you are going for the week, you can do all these things and have a memorable Bahamas holiday. There is something for everyone to do, even lazing around on the beaches while waiting for the parting to start at night.

The Jet Ski tour is amazing. You are taken to some of the most remote places around the islands. You can see some wildlife, colorful birds and marine life. The dolphins and sea turtles seem to come out and entertain everyone who comes into their areas. You will have a chance to see some of the estates on the island, which look as if movie stars could live in them. If you need help learning how to drive the skies, there is a quick learning session before leaving on the tour.

The party cruises are something that you do not see around the United States or other countries. You can dine, drink and relax on the party cruise while the boat moves around the island. The dinner cruises are another popular activity. Your cheap holidays to Bahamas can be exciting when you dine for the evening on a cruise ship. The view of the islands is amazing to see as you are enjoying fine cuisine and drinks. People going to the Bahamas for spring break do have fun and plenty of excitement.

The powerboats are another popular activity that everyone can enjoy. Just because they are powerboats does not mean you have to go all that fast. You can still enjoy the scenery from the water. Fishing is another fun spring break activity. This might not sound like fun, but many guys and gals have a great time catching the big fish. Cheap holidays to Bahamas also allow you to take a jeep tour. The safaris are fun and exciting. You can visit Lucayan National Park and see all the caves and swamps. You might even enjoy the backcountry tour with one of the experienced guides.

To finish your cheap holidays to Bahamas during spring break, you can try kayaking. The waters are amazingly clear, all you have to do is look down, and you see the marine life swimming around. You can stop along the way and do some snorkeling or relax on the beach. Then be on your way to the next point of interest. Spring break is for having fun and getting away from the every day happenings, in the Bahamas this is the only thing you have to do. Get away and have all the fun you want while relaxing.
